Hi, hope someone can help me as im not sure what we need to do!
Last year our dog ran away from our house whilst my husband was cleaning his car; as soon as he realised our dog had gone, he went to look for him, firstly to the main road where he didnt find him, and then other areas. After this he went back to the main road and this time found our dog had been run over and died, the car driver was understandably shaken as was my husband. My husband gave him his details but did not get the drivers details (the poilce also talked to my husband at the scene).
Some months later the wife of the driver called and spoke to me (as my husband was away) and we had a good chat in which i asked if there was anything i could do to help, she said that their insurance company had told them that we did not have insurance so they could not do anything, we have never to this date recieved any letter from insurures regarding this matter.
I said that we would be happy to pay any costs that they had incured, i.e. damage to their car. The drivers wife gave me their phone number and i said that i would get my husband to call her back but i lost the number and had no way of finding it as i did not know their names.
My husband has now recieved a letter from their solicitors stating that they have taken out after the event insurance and that they want to claim for injuries (stated as whiplash type injuries to the neck) and financial loss.
Should we pay any expenses asked of us or do we need a solicitor and/or after the event insurance (we have no pet insurance) in order to deal with this matter.
Thank you in advance if anyone can help me!
