I'd recommend getting a new joint account, which would be used for you to pay in for bills / mortgage.

I did this with A+L. If between you both you pay in say 1000 per month, you should be ok with this.

Worth being careful about multiple applications for credit accounts as these searches will appear on your credit record.

It would be worthwhile getting a copy of your credit reports also.

Need a joint account. New one or transfer a name over?

At the moment me and my girlfriend have seperate accounts but are getting our first mortgage soon and we decided it would be easier to have a joint account.

The reason we havent done so in the past is transferring direct debits etc over to a new account but it has to be done.

I just wandered if it would be best (if even possible) to put her name on my account and get her a card for it. I don't really want to lose my £500 overdraft. I have never used it but I like it there just in case. Or if we should just look around for another account.

I had a look at the compare tool but I still don't know what to do.

Like I said I want my overdraft, I don't mind paying for an account montlhly as I do already with HSBC Plus and she does with lloyds. So what ever we pay monthly will be lower than 2 accounts.
