    Hi all,

    Christmas is fast approaching and it’s the season to say ‘thank you’, so this year we wanted to recognise all the hard work, time and effort you – our community members – devote to helping others.

    It’s hard to measure just how useful all your incredible advice has been – not just to the people who ask for help, but for those who read but never post.

    But without further a do…I’d like to introduce the inaugural ‘Community Stars 2009’ awards.

    There will be 5 categories in total:

    · Debt – Most helpful poster 2009

    · Money – Most helpful poster 2009

    · Insurance – Most helpful poster 2009

    · Gas & Electricity – Most helpful poster 2009

    · And the much-coveted, top banana, personal finance guru award:
    Best overall member 2009


    The first 4 categories above will receive £50 worth of love2reward shopping vouchers, with the best overall member receiving £100 worth of vouchers. In addition, you’ll get a smart, friendly and much-coveted avatar to use on your forum profile for 2010. Woo-hoo!

    How? Who? When?

    Firstly, we’d like you to send your top three nominations for each category (in order of preference) by email to graeme.delap @ moneysupermarket.com by Wednesday 18 November.

    Any registered member can be nominated – in as many categories as you like - and the more you can tell us why you think someone deserves to win, the better.

    What next?
    We’ll announce the top three nominations for each category and then ask for your votes (via email) in each category between Thursday 19 November and Friday 18 December. The winners will be announced at our online awards ceremony starting at 12 noon on Wednesday December 23 2009 over a virtual mulled wine and mince pie in the Community Café. Usual rules apply - our decision is final etc etc etc.

    I’ll be rolling out the red carpet and wearing a tux (possibly at the same time). Felicity will be baking cakes, interviewing the nominees and looking her usual stunning self. We may even be joined on the red carpet by our very own media mogul and Radio4’s MoneyBox regular, editor Clare Francis…

    So don’t miss it! It promises to be at least as good as the 1989 Brit Awards…

    Oh come on, it will EASILY be better than the 1989 Brit Awards! We're talking 1996 at least, minus (one would hope) a semi-naked Jarvis Cocker.

    I hope I get a sneak preview of the nominations, Graeme...? :p

    Hello... nice time? I thought the gold standard was Sam and Mick. Now I remember it well (Maurice Chevalier) do you? If you do and looking at your pic are you 32? Of course I hasten to add you look a lot younger, about 26?

    On another matter, did you bring me back a present and if not, you don't have to say anything just go out and buy me something nice that's made in China and just say China's got the contract for Morocco.

    Ah, I think we need another category? The community member most likely to 'do a Jacko'....?

    Here's a shameless plug for democracy: Voting begins in earnest a week on Thursday - plenty of time left to nominate your stars...

    A final reminder for everyone to send me their nominations by midnight tonight please!

    Thanks to those who have already responded - very much appreciated.

    There's still time to let us know who you think deserves recognition for being the most helpful community member and providing consistently excellent advice and high quality replies to those who have asked.

    We'll announce the top three nominated posters in each category at 9am and the voting begins straight away - I like to do my voting somewhere between breakfast and lunchtime, perferably over a chocolate hob-nob and a refreshing cup of tea... ;o)

    Good morning and welcome to...

    The Community Stars 2009 nominations ceremony.

    There's a real hustle and bustle around the room....an eeerie hush descends....photographers are poised, cameramen twitch nerously at the back, journalists scribble frantically aiming to catch the ambiance of the sharp, tension-filled atmosphere. It's much like I imagine the Oscars or Mercury award nomination ceremonies to be, except no one will be singing and I haven't managed to team up with Paul Smith. I'm fairly sure Felicity hasn't persuaded Giogio Armani or Oscar de la Rente to part with their latest creation, though you never know...
