Will i take my LLU problem (unable to open websites) with me.

     Jason.

I have been unable to open web pages for 8 weeks,i'm with Orange,it started when they did an upgrade,i understand it was a LLU.I have been told i will receive my mac code in 5 days.

If i move to a ISP providing or using LLU will i have the same issue i have with Orange, they have been unable/unwilling to fix it.

I'm not technical so i suppose i'm asking this.Orange have done an LLU on the line, there is obviously a problem because since this was done i haven't been able to acess web pages,i'm here because i've subscribed to a dial up connection.

So if i move to another LLU ISP,will they inherit the problem that is on the line and have to fix what Orange have not been able to fix or do they start from scratch and do their own LLU.

I have been advised by one none LLU ISP i have contacted, that if i joined them i would have to pay a connection fee because BT would have to return the 'phone line to its original state and they would have to pay BT for doing this.

    Thanks.

    Hi Cliff

OK basically Orange have migrated you to their LLU without your knowledge which quite frankly is shocking.

I agree I think you need to change provider - the problem is that now you're on LLU to move to another provider you'll need to go through a costly 'cease and reprovide' - this means BT have to remove the LLU tag off your line first and then reinstall a brand new BT connection again.

This is a cost you to and also will take anything up to 3-4 weeks. There is a way you can avoid 'cease and reprovide' - some provider do accept LLU MAC codes and they are:

    Nildram
    Be Broadband (LLU)
    Zen
    Freeola
    IDNet
    UKFSN

My advice is to take your MAC code from Orange and as soon as you get it decide which of the providers above you want to go with and pass on your MAC code from Orange.

That way you will avoid the costly 'cease and reprovide' and also avoid the downtime without broadband.

    I hope this helps?

    Cheers

    Hi Jason

I've taken a look at Bebroadband.Loads of info on there, more than any others i've looked at and in understandable terms.Loads of info covering i imagine any questions anyone might have.

Sounds excellent, got me thinking even though i'd got it in my head not to go with an LLU provider after my Orange nightmare.

Do you have any more feedback about them.

I've seen some posts on here about  mac codes not being accepted,i couldn't understand that after i read it,i thought if you have one then surely it has to be accepted, apparently not.

They say that they can't accept some mac codes & give details about the ones that they can accept.Mine is ok should i decide to go that way.

    Hi Cliff

I refer to my earlier post - the providers listed accept LLU MAC codes.

I personally think although Be is another LLU provider they have a very good customer service record at the moment.

Re: Will i take my LLU problem (unable to open websites) with me.

    Jason

I gave my mac code to BE on June 9,it was accepted ok,second em said that i should be connected on June 19.Wait & see now.

From what i've read on their website they do a partial unbundling which means only the high frequency cables are reconnected to BEs area of the exchange. The voice low freq. cables are not touched and the 'phone calls are still with BT.

It seems that BT switch the cables for BE, must pay them i suppose.

With my Orange problems i was told that they have outside contractors switching theirs.

For any Orange subscribers. This may or may not be of assistance.Whe i reconnected via dial up,i got on to speedtouch about the 330 modem i was using, explained things again,i  received a reply which said that the 330 modem was not suitable for speeds above 2mb.If this is correct then surely Orange should have been aware of an issue & replaced it with something that was suitable.

To late for me of course and i would have moved anyway.I've received 2 months payments back into my credit card from Orange.Thinking about trying for the £18 paid for calls to call centres.

Re: Will i take my LLU problem (unable to open websites) with me.

    Hi Jason,

here is my problem. you say your advice is to take your MAC code and choose another provider. problem is TalkTalk (my current provider who have put me on a LLU without telling me) will not/cannot give me a MAC code or LLU MAC code. this whole industry needs tearing up and sorting out. it is controlled by crooks who have no fear of reprisals 'cos there is none! the regulator is toothless. I have moved to Sky but don't know where i stand regarding broadband.

    help.
