After about 2 years, and deciding the car I was sold really wasnt as fully checked as they had claimed I went to the local office to ask about handing it back as it said in the contract I could do after paying half. The girl said that if I gave them another £1000 then I could return it. :0 So, I held on to it. After another year I get a letter saying I could trade it in for another car, and seeing as how I couldnt get credit anywhere else I decided to see what they could offer. Was given the choice of only 3 cars due to my financial circumstances and picked the cheapest, a Toyota Avensis. Took it a test drive and thought it was ok so accepted it. Went through the hard sell again ("you need PPI, blah, blah, blah) and picked it up the next day. Wasnt til I got home I noticed that the new tyres and satnav that were on it during the test drive were no longer on the car. Phoned them and was told the guy I had dealt with wasnt in but they would get him to call. 5 years on and I am still waiting!!!! Anyway, I paid the credit for 2 years and then changed job. Due to family problems etc, I then could not afford the car, so called the company to say this and was told "If you cant afford it, why did you buy the car? You'll just need to find the money, cant you borrow it from someone?" Told the guy to mind his own business and hung up. The payments were to be over 5 years, but I to date I have only paid for 2 years as my bank account was closed by the bank and I had to open a new one with a different bank. I received a letter about 3 years ago from a debt company (cant remember their name) saying they were taking over my account, but since then I have heard nothing. No letters, no knocks on the door, nothing. I still have the heap of rubbish car that has cost me a fortune to keep going since I got it. But now its gonna cost me nearly a grand to repair (thought toyotas were meant to be reliable?) and I just want rid of it but cant coz its still on finance. Can anyone give me any advice of what I should do? many thanks. At the time they gave me around a 3000 discount on the vehicle due to the special arrangement they have with the company i work for, and having the vehicle sign written was included. Having paid a deposit of 5000 pounds on a vehicle .I have now decided to cancel due to a stress related incident , meaning i will most likely not be able to keep up payments should i fall ill in the future. I informed the dealer of my intention , but he says that as the vehicle has been registered in my name, he will most likely have to sell the vehicle at a discounted price, if he cannot deregister the vehicle with the DVLA. He says that he has some people that he may be able to sell the vehicle to , but they will most likely want big money off due to it being technically a second hand vehicle. I have not even taken the vehicle from the dealer premises, nor has it turned a wheel. At no time have i signed the final agreement allowing them to take money in monthly installments for the hire purchase. The only document i signed was the actual order form for the vehicle. The dealer has come up with different figures that they may keep from my initial deposit increasing in amounts every time i have spoken to him. Can any one help me on this one ?.

6% PCP Vs 13% PCP+car discount. To take advantage of that price, I need to to: 1) Take out a bank loan (probably @ 9%) over 4 years. 2) Take out a dealer finance deal @ 13% apr over 3 years + optional final payment 3) Alternatively, the dealer can offer me a manufacturer-subsidised rate @ 5.5% apr over 3 years + optinal final payment BUT the car will cost £11,700. The approx total amounts payable are as follows: 1) £12,500 2) £12,600 3) £12,700 I normally change my vehicle after two years... so I'm writing-off option 1, based on the fact that it's probably going to be a front-loaded loan. This leaves us with options 2 and 3: If I need to settle early (by trading in my car after two years), which option will give me the lowest settlement figure: Option 2, or Option 3? Kind regards, Oms.

Car finance - bad credit - father as guarantor

Hello, this is my first post! :-) Please can you advise me, I am looking to finance a car with my dad acting as guarantor on the finance. Today my wife purchased a Corsa from Stoneacre. Price £7999, scrappage £1000 and £500 deposit On our visit yesterday we agreed finance at £40 per week over 5 years which I thought was expensive but please bear with me. We were then offered to the Business Manager who tried to add on loads of things but one thing we agreed to was a 3 year warranty at £1.98 per week! He showed us the pamphlet and what was covered, amazing and just for two quid a week? yes. Why, I now ask myself, was he looking so happy? Today he wasn't there and we saw the Sales Manager who flew through the paperwork like I don't know what with figures all over which never quite make sense. He showed us the very same warranty asking if the man yesterday had explained it. We said yes. We signed and left. What he didn't explain was that the warranty was £1500 and had been added to the credit and what I can't work out is that we should have financed £6500 but with this warranty of £1500 it's £8500. I rang the manager and was told that nothing could be done as everything had been explained, signed for etc etc. but he would give me a settlement figure in six months time which would prevent incurring great interest. The £2 per week was an insurance for the warranty?? Now, we know we should have been more vigilant but do we have recourse in this matter? Thanks Jola

Fiat Car Finance

Hi All, I took the Fiat 500 for a test drive yestreday morning and fell in love with it. I called the Sales Executive back and went through everything on the phone including my personal details for the credit check. He called me back 20 minutes later to tell me that the application had been declined. He said that he could put it through to another companu but the apr will go up. He said he will call me Monday to let me know how it went. Has this happened to anybody else? I have a a car loan (HP agreement) that I think may be unenforceable, when I purchased the car i also purchased a MBI and GAP insurances with the loan, these were added to the final total of the agreement, but details of the insurances do not show up on the agreement, only the car. Does this make the agreement unenforceable? I have already defaulted on this loan, as unfortunately for me the car is broken and the warranty company refused to pay for the repair, I have already went down the insurance ombudsman (waste of time, what do they know about cars) who agree with the warranty company. The finance company have also already taken me to court, and this is when I noticed the difference in the agreement, I have an old faded photocopy of what should be on original agreement which shows cost of car, cost of warranties and final total. The very nicely printed version of the agreement has a section called goods purchased under this agreement, within this it only details car details nothing on warranties Any advice appreciated.

Excessive Peugeot finance charges at end of contract - beware

Excess Mileage More than £1100 ) 0.42p per mile but when more than 30% over the 18,000 miles designated charge is increased to 0.84p per mile Wear and Tear More than £1000 Total Bill originally more than £2000 (Bill has been reduced by £400 to date as goodwill gesture _ not sure where the goodwill is!) My daughter purchased a new Peugeot 107 3 years ago for just over £6000 via Peugeot Finance Deal. She had the opportunity of handing back the car last month which she did but was subsequently billed with excess charges for mileage and wear and tear amounting to over £2000. Some of which she is contesting but the bill for excess charges for a car which was returned in almost showroom condition with under 35,000 miles on the clock appears a total rip off by PEUGEOT FINANCE. She has been charged for a known Peugeot fault for the car (not painting under the bonnet) and car history (she was handed all the accounts for servicing the car when car uplifted and finance company charged £275 for this aspect alone) She was not advised either prior to pick-up or on date of pickup that these charges would be billed for. If she had known extent of charges she would have arranged to buy car for £4000. Peugeot have referred to small print of finance document which I admit my daughter should have had a lawyer look over prior to signing. However young people buying their first car can be very influenced by Car Salesmen. I have created a website with the dialogue with Peugeot Finance should anyone else wish to see the detail. PLEASE BEWARE OF THESE CHARGES WITH ANY AGREEMENT YOU MAY HAVE OR MAY BE ENDING In view of the above I would never ever recommend a PEUGEOT CAR Yours A mother who probably has to pick up these charges and daughter who will be paying back to me for quite a few months as well as the charges for her new car. PS Details of the above have been requested by recorded delivery from Peugeot as the order form which we hold does not state any of the above in the Terms and Conditions

Arnold Clark Finance

As i am sure you have all read a thousand times before. i went into my local Arnold Clark branch to see about getting a newer car than my existing one, Anyway to cut a long story short i returned the next day to work everything out on my new car. I told the saleman i would be looking to get the car on finance whilst also trading my existing car in and i'd agreed to pay £100 deposit. After reading through paperwork and finding repayments etc that would suit, i then proceeded to sign the papers and he then debited my account the £100 deposit. He said he'd be in touch over the next few days once the finance had been sorted out. 2 days later he called to say the finence company had refused it and that there is a few others he can try. Though to be honest if the first one declined then i'm sure they'll all follow. Now for starters i really don't know why its been refused in the first palce, he mentioned that its maybe because i've never had finance before and that sometimes you have to have had finance to get finance lol............... ok but how the hell can i get it in the first place if they wont except me. I have a well paid secure job so i know thats not the problem. Also i'm not sure if he should of had me signing papers and paying the deposit if the finance wasn't agreed first. Now i am almost sure it will be a fight to get my deposit back. Any advice would be greatly apprieciated.

Getting vehicle deposit back

On Saturday I agreed to buy an ex demo car from an Audi dealer under a PCP agreement which required me to pay a £3,000 downpayment (as I understood it) and then instalments over the next 48 months. This, I understood, incorporated the addition of parking sensors, road tax and a gap insurance which I had elected for. I left a £1000 deposit with the dealer and signed a used car order form. When I got home and read through the paperwork more thoroughly, I was not happy with the figures that indicated that I was actually putting down a £4000 down payment, which incuded the £1000 deposit that I had paid on Saturday. I went back to the dealer the next day, less that 24 hours later to cancel my order, as I realised that I did seem to be paying a lot for the car, and was uncomfortable with the figures and the £4000 down payment. The Salesman who I dealt with was not in that day, and the one that was said that he couldn't deal with the matter in his absence. That night I e-mailed the Salesman I had originally dealt with, and said that I wanted to cancel the order for the car and gave the reasons why. He rang me the next day, explaining that I could not cancel the order - which I knew that I could, and advised that I would not get my £1000 deposit back either, and could incur an additional 10% fee for damages which the Sales Manager may decide to add on. He said that the £4000 included the cost of the gap insurance, parking sensors and road tax, and that I had agreed to this. However I was of the impression that the £3000 deposit and the instalments over 48 months included these costs, therefore I appeared to be putting down a larger down payment than I thought I had agreed to. My question is this really - attached to the vehicle order form, there is a terms of business sheet which has a paragraph in there to say that the deposit will be withheld if the customer cancels the order, however; this form was not given to me to read when I was given the order form to check, I was not advised orally that the deposit was non refundable, and although the salesman has signed this terms of business sheet, I have not. Do you think I could get my deposit back on this basis?

Issues with Car Finance Company

Long story so will try to keep it short. Bought Renault in 2003 using RFS. No problems until baloon payment was due. They called me to remind me. I said I couldnt afford the baloon payment but was told when I bought the car that I could keep paying monthly, or return it. The chap agreed with me that I could keep paying monthly. Now - they didn't take the subsequent payments. So after a few months I chased them up. They said they were not allowed to take the monthly payments I had to pay the baloon payment or return the car. I told them to come and pick up the car - they agreed but never did. Various correspondence followed from me only - they never responded by letter only by phone. I sent a letter threatening to charge a storage fee of £50 per week if they didnt collect in 7 days. They didn't. Anyway after about a year I wrote to them and said they owed me £2,600 in charges, and that as the car was worth about that now, they could credit my account collect the car and we would be all clear. No response. I sent a statement every few months of the balance due to me. When it reached £4k in storage charges I wrote to them and said the amount due to me outweighed the value of the car. If they didnt pay up/collect the car I would sell it - obviously I couldnt as the car had finance against it. I then received a call from someone who said they would remove the fiannce flag and my account would be closed and that would be the end of it. They removed the flag - I sold the car. Sorted I thought. Well all was good until a new company RCI registered a default against me. I called them and they had no knowledge of previous correspondence, no computer logs of phone calls etc. I have sent the usual request for info letter asking for a true copy of the agreement, true copy of the default agreement and confirmation if the debt had been sold on. No response. Today a bailiff visited me to repossess the car! I told him the situation and he was nice about it. Went away and said he would get in touch with RCI. My question is where do I go next? I dont have the car and they have not responded to my first letter. I probably pulled a fast one charging storage I know but it was being stored in London at a cost. I would even be happy to pay them some cash in full and final - but not the whole balance due to costs I did incur. Is there a followup letter I should now send to get this concluded or should I seek legal advice?

advice on existing finance on my car

hi all, new here so hope its in the right place! (deep breath) here goes: february 2009 i bought a car with a price of £10,150. part exed my old car for £4000 so took out a finance agreement with creation finance for the £6150 over 4 years. up to now i've paid £1305 off the balance. the first re-payment was £250, and the following monthly payments have been £175. i've looked on the net and my car currently has a value of around £9000. i'm interested in another car now (yes i know its only been 8 months!) which will cost around £10000. i've considered many options including getting credit cards to settle the finance then pay the cards back in the 0% periods in order to buy the new one. but as i also have a loan from a previous time, my credit reprt says im already using around 93% of my affordable credit, which is rejecting me the cards. another option i thought about was if i could part ex my current car for the new car, then the dealer paying off my finance and whatever is left could be my deposit on the new one. then getting finance (again!) for the remaining balance on the new one! as ive made all payments on time for the finance so far, how considerate would creation finance be in setting up a new finance agreement for me? i appreciate it will not just be a case of swapping vehicle details and telling me a new amount to pay, but i really don't know much about this sort of thing! so if anyone could tell me my options i may have or anyone has any opinions (good or bad) , id greatly appreciate it. thanks, kev p.s. just to add, although the current situation is easily affordable for me, getting the new car would reduce service costs, running costs etc. so is really appealing to me.

Car Finace vs Car Leasing?

Hi All, My wife and I in the past got into trouble credit wise and are slowly working our way up from the bottom, be both have now fallen into good jobs and we need a car to commute, with the new jobs we are around 500 pounds a month better off, we are on a debt management plan which has worked well but we need a new car. My wife travels a 50 mile round trip, and we want something relativity new and something that wont break in a week. We have looked at finance but the only companies that would touch us have sky high interest rates, and we have looked at leasing which is the cheaper option but we wont own the car. What would you recommend? Many Thanks

Can I get car finance unemployed but job offer

Hi all again. I have posted something similar about this but circumstances have now changed. I'm currently unemployed but have at last had my CRB through and have a job starting at the beginning of next month. I'm waiting for the contract of employment to come through but I know it can take two months (there will be no problems with the employer - it's local government). I will need to have a car for the job and am wondering whether a car finance company would take me on? It will be my first car and I want to get used to driving again before I start work. At the mo I'm getting £60/week JSA but I do have £1000 of my overdraft available, which I will need to cover me until the end of the month. I'm not convinced I could buy a reliable enough car and run it, as well as paying all other living expenses, just on my overdraft. I could however do it if I had finance, as I would probably (just) have enough of my overdraft left to pay the first payment, but by the time that's due I should have my first pay anyway. Most garages I have seen that provide finance are asking for payslips. Does anyone know of a decent and reasonable provider?

PCP Deals

Can anyone advise how to sift through all of the best deals on PCP without having to trawl from one company to the next, or is this wishful thinking. I bought my car 3 and half years ago and my contractual term will end in April 2010, however I do have arrears and there is no way balance would be cleared by that time. I am currently paying £224.21 per month but yet (apparently!) still owe in the region of £3,500, the car is probably not worth that amount anymore as its nearing 8 years old. Handing it back is not an option as I need the car to get to work but I wondered if the old myth was correct that if I'm paying them 'something' then they can't take it back? I know they would have to take me to court first as I've paid way more than two thirds, but say if I was to write to them offering £100.00 per month would they just accept it? I'd rather finish the debt asap but unfortunately that just isn't going to happen anytime soon, any advice is much appreciated. DeeCee
