I had 3 dd due out yesterday and I transferred the money into the account they were coming from on the 18th unfortunately I realised yest that I had put the money into my daughters act by a mistake and the ddebits have tried to be taken off, I contacted BOS this am and have been told its a case of bad luck silly mistake and I will have to pay the charges that will apply. I have spoken to BOS customer services manager and he has said they same I will have to pay the charges, he was quite aware that I had transferred the money and it was to the wrong acct, when i noticed my error which was last night I automatically put the money into the correct acct, but they are adamant there is nothing I can do about the charges as they refunded me a charge in July this year. I think this is pretty rotton of them considering they can see the money was there but in the wrong account. Does anyone know of anything I can do apart from close all my accts with BOS which they will not be bothered about 1 person closing them. No much wonder they can afford to give out all the cheap loans that they do. Really annoyed at myself but also with BOS.

current account offset personal loan

Hi, Having just completed a major building works, we now have a fantastic mortgage deal that we don't want to touch, a regular chunky monthly income coming into 2 separate current accounts, but quite a bit of "soft" money outstanding on credit cards. Ideally, I would like to consolidate our two current accounts and have them offset against the amount currently bouncing around on balance transfers (we're about all out of introductory transfer options!). So - is there are a current account that is not over-burdened with monthly fees, which we can use to offset against a personal loan - probably a low 5-figure sum - to clear the credit cards? This was done at night time. When I checked the statement it showed that I had sufficient funds. I went back to the back and paid the £2.04, and I spoke to one of the advisers and they told me that there was there was payment made to Asda (£6.89) and Tesco (£4.98), which resulted account to be overdrawn by £2.04. What I don’t understand why they charging me £68 pounds. At the moment I have no income and I am unable to pay them.... We now live permanently in France and recently we have been told that we cannot open any new accounts due to our living in France. We can however have an offshore account with the BofS in the Isle of Man but that is not a safe option as their bank guarantees are incapable of paying out if a large bank like BofS goes insolvent. So we said no thanks and moved to HSBC. However I don't think what the BofS is doing is strictly legal. There is new consumer law in the UK that prevents "aggressive" acts forcing a customer to do something they would not normally choose to do. The forcing of us to go to an offshore account I think may be such an aggressive act.(The Consumer Protection from Unfair Trading Regulations 2008) (relevant section below) Any lawyers on this forum? I had an arranged overdraft of about £350. We recently bought a new house as and a result I’ve had to increase this overdraft to £3000. I have recently noticed that they are taking a interest payment off me every month as I am sitting a minus in my account although I have never noticed this charge before. I have just check the interest rates and it advises there is a 1.5% charge per month for any amounts over £300. Is this a new T&C which they have added as I have never noticed any charges before? What options do I have so that I’m not getting charged every month? Are there other accounts I could transfer to or should I be transferring the balance to a 0% credit card or something? I also noticed a post on your site today that as of December Halifax is going to start charging a certain amount every day based on how much you are overdrawn. Is this true? Regards.

Think Banking may have just cost me £1000. We're fairly new to them, and only opened the account because we wanted to make sure that money was set aside every month for Direct Debits and standing orders - things have been tighter and we were in our overdraft most of the time plus we have become a bit lax and have incurred a number of charges. So Think Banking made a bit of sense. We had a Lloyds Premier costing £25 per month so the £12.50 at Think wasn't a issue. So.... I sold my car. It took slightly longer than expected (which is the only thing that isn't Think Banking's fault) and a CHAPS (same day) payment was only sent yesterday by the company buying it from me. I have already found the car I wanted at a great price, so in the interest of time I sold my car to a local garage and put a deposit of £1000 on another car. I agreed that I would pay the remaining balance by Saturday (today) knowing that I would have the funds in my account. I rang Think Bank to find out if the CHAPS had reached the account and was told that "a credit advice was showing, however due to it being a large amount it would not physically go onto the account until tomorrow". I pointed out that there was no mention of this in their T&C's and was fairly unhappy because it would be cutting it fine time-wise, however I took them at their word and phoned the dealer to let them know that everything would be ready to go ahead as agreed. Today, I rang them to get a balance enquiry. Those who know Think Banking will appreciate that there are two accounts; a salaries account and a card account. There was a significant balance on the salaries account, so I waited to be put through to a 'Money Manager' to move the cash to the card account. I finally got through. I was told that: "DUE TO IT BEING A LARGET AMOUNT OF MONEY, IT CAN'T BE MOVED TO THE CARD ACCOUNT UNTIL MONDAY AS THE TEAM WHO DEAL WITH IT DON'T WORK ON SATURDAY". Again, this is not in their T&C's. I asked if just some of it could be moved to the card so I could pay another holding deposit on te car and was told an emphatic "NO, but I can raise a complaint for you, if you'd like!". So I'm in the situation where I am at the behest of the garage as to whether they will hold it for longer or give me my deposit back. But they don't have to. So I could potentially lose my £1000 because (and this is no joke).... Think Bank do exactly what they want. If there isn't a clause in the T&C's, they will make one up and YOU as a customer will have to live with it, or make a complaint which can take 5 days to even get looked at, and blame it on THAT'S HOW THE SYSTEM WORKS. Hopefully, this won't cost me any money, but if it does I will take action against them to recover every penny. It raises some serious questions of a company who has c. 60,000 account holders. For instance, who decides what a large amount of money is? No-one there knows. Why does it take, in effect, 3 days to be able to access a CHAPS? No-one knows. What are the inter-account transfer limits? Ditto. And most importantly, why are none of these isses included in the T&C's??? How can a company who holds responsibility for money work like that? I'm sorry if this has turned into a long rant, but I thought it important to make this know to any current or potential customers. I'm sure they must have some happy customers, but this has ended our relationship overnight... They say that as Microsoft have not updatred the programme since 2005 they will no longer support it. I could accpet this, but I do not understand why they canot allow the background banking operation to continue without support. Money was a simple but highly effective tool for managing financial data on a daily basis using up to the minute data direct from your account. Nationwide were the only bank in the UK to offer the background service which was one big reason for me to stay with them. Not only have they now removed this functionality but they will not provide a data download that is compatible with the programme unlike just abpout any other bank or credit card compnay in the UK. Indeed in a quite bizarre turn they have advised customers to " use a conversion tool readily available from the internet" So, from having the Rolls Royce of service they are now providing a Ryan Air service without the charm. This is yet another nail in the coffin of a once noble building society. Fees for credits cards, no interest on current account and a almost monthly withdrawls of services under the guise opf competitiveness have stripped this institution of all reasons to stay with them. Via the online secure message facilty I have left them in no doubt what I think but at the end of the day only moving away(and taking almost £300K with me) is the only message they will understand, but, like all the major financial institutions in this country, will almost certainly not listen too. The bank seemed to have sorted this for me without any problems so, I thought nothing of it. I stopped using the account but, left it open in case I ever needed it. Approximately 3 months later I noticed that the account was £155 overdrawn and, upon further enquiries, realised that the bank had not downgraded the account as they said they had. I complained about this and the bank decided to refund me the £155. Since then, the account has still not been downgraded and the charges have been mounting up again. The account is now nearly £400 overdrawn due to the bank taking the £12.95 every month for the last 3 months and then charging me the relevant unauthorised overdraft fees to boot. As I wasn't using the account and had been told by the bank that the account had been downgraded, I couldn't understand how this had happened. I went into my branch to find out what had been going on and to get the charges re-imbursed again but, they told me there was no record of me downgrading the account. Therefore, no banking error had taken place and i am liable to pay the £400 worth of charges that had accumulated in my account! I wasn't satisfied with this explanation so, demanded to see the manager who said exactly the same thing and gave me a phone number for the collections department to start paying the money back! I explained to her that this had happened before but, she just kept telling me that there was definitely no error on the banks part and that I would have to pay the charges myself. I then rang Natwest to make a formal complaint but, was passed through to the collections department! I then proceeded to l them about what had happened but, they said I would have to sort it out with my branch althought, he did put a concern on my account but, not quite sure what that means although, he did seem to think I would be able to do something about it as last time it happened, the bank refunded me the charges. I went back into my branch the next day and demanded to see the manager again. Apparently she wasn't there but, the lady I did speak to told me I would have to take it up with the manager but, she did agree to suspend any further charges to my account until the matter had been resolved. I see no reason why I should pay them as this is not an error on my part. I was wondering if anyone knew of anything I could do to get this issue resolved? I'm not prepared to just take it on the chin and pay them until all other avenues have been explored. Unfortunately the issue is quite complex, which may go some way to explaining why it is not yet resolved. I will try to get the salient points across, if you want me to clarify or elaborate, please ask. Some time ago (over two years now), I held three different accounts with Natwest, only one of which I used regularly, and two with arranged overdraft facilities. In error, I set up a new direct debit to the account without an overdraft, and the balance at that time was £0, if I had used the correct account number, then this would not be an issue now. Anyway, without sufficient funds in that account, it attracted overdraft fees, I thought that this was unreasonable considering that between all three accounts I had not only sufficient funds, but an arranged borrowing limit far in excess of what was required to cover the transactions in question. I wrote to Natwest explaining this, and asking them to justify the charges (at this point I would have accepted a small charge for my error, but not the charges that they applied). All I received back was a standard letter about how they thought their charges were fair and that there was a test case outstanding so they weren't prepared to do anything. As this didn't address any of the issues I raised, I became somewhat petulant and decided to close my accounts with Natwest and move my business elsewhere. I actually moved all my direct debits and advised my employer of new bank details, then I worked out the outstanding balances on all three accounts (minus any charges and interest on those charges) and made one payment from my new account to cover everything that I owed. I then wrote Natwest a detailed letter of complaint, explaining that I wasn't prepared to pay any charges and that they should close all my accounts (at this point the difference between what I say I owed and what Natwest claimed was only around £350). This letter also included written notification of my change of address, my implication being, that if they wanted the money, they should attempt to take me to court. After this I received no further written communication from Natwest for some time, despite my informing them in writing a second time, and also advising one of their telephone operatives that called me. Now it turns out, that they let my accounts continue to accrue charges and are now attempting to claim over £1,000. During this debacle I have written to several different departments at Natwest, and have received various responses, none of which shows any evidence that anyone has seriously looked into the issue. They have even claimed that I failed to make contact with them, despite the fact that for several months they failed to update my address details. Most recently, they have passed my accounts to Triton credit services (who I understand are part of the same group), when they contacted me I told them that I wouldn't deal with them as I was still in correspondence with Natwest. I am not especially worried by all this, but it has been dragging on for some time and would like it resolved. What should my next step be? And if it does go to court (a prospect I don't relish), do I have a case? Thanks in advance

Think Banking...

Has anyone tried Think Banking? Turns out that my card had been misused on the internet and fraud on my account had occurred. My main gripe about this entire situation, is that I have now just finished my 5th call to Barclays and to describe my feeling as 'mad & annoyed' just doesn't cover it - I'm gobsmacked and cannot believe my ears. Without going into the accute details of my case, the main complaint i have on this is the way in which Barclays have treated this case of fraud. Every time I call, I receive different advice or a different description of what is going on / what will happen / what I have to do. On my 3rd call I found out that some of the actions promised by the girl at the call centre, weren't even completed properly! I feel utterly disgusted and disappointed with the service I have received and after banking with Barclays for 12 years, I seriously think it's now time to move to a new current account provider. Absolutely shocking. I do know that fraud is a risk in this society where internet shopping is so common, but surely the banks by now should be able to deal with the situation effectively and efficiently to maintain customer confidence in their product?

Lloyds TSB debit card users be warned!!

Lloyds TSB have come up with what I can only see as an attempt to make you inadverntantly go overdrawn and charge you the relevant interest and fees for doing so. Disguised as an facility to help you save it goes like this, each of your transactions on your debit card are rounded up to the next pound and the 'change' can be sent to another LTSB account thus keeping the money with LTSB but emptying your current account quicker. So if you spend £7.22 at Sainsburys then £8.00 will be debited from your current account and £0.78 goes to a savings account. Great if you have plenty left over at the end of the month or week, but if not monitered could put you overdrawn or worse still over your overdraft limit. Be Warned! Quote :- Save the Change™Sign up for Save the Change™ and every time you make a purchase with your Lloyds TSB debit card, we'll round up the amount you spent to the nearest pound and transfer the difference into a Lloyds TSB savings account. Saving so easy, you'll forget you're doing it. Nominate your own or a family member's savings account. Whatever you buy, from coffees and sandwiches to your weekly shop, you'll soon discover that your small change will start adding up.

Missing Pound from account

I use online banking and have noticed several times about once a month a 1 pound difference in account balance and available balance. This 1 pound disappears and then re-appears again in two days time. It doesn't leave the account, no transaction is processed, and it’s just unavailable. Now I know that I haven't used my debit card for 1 pound. I called the bank and asked them what was going on and they couldn't say as the transaction hadn't gone through, but just earmarked. Therefore they were unable to trace the transaction and help me. They did give one very strange explanation about an old debit card number can still be used to take money out of the account, but this only happens in special circumstances. To which I asked. What was the point of renewing debit cards if the old one can still withdraw money? Question to you, has anybody else experienced this disappearing re-appearing pound?? I know it's only a pound, but its the fact that someone can make my money unavailable to me.

Help- Expat living abroad, with UK debt, in need of UK bank account

Hi I'm Really hoping somone has an idea as to what I can do. The situation is we have debt in the uk and have entered a DMP with payplan. We need to move our money away from the Halifax, but are finding it difficult to open a bank account in the UK as we live in Greece. Ideally we would like a fee free account with a normal bank, but if we needed to take a Pre-paid card we would, but there are quiet a few to chose from and we are not sure they would suit us. We have a house in The UK which we rent, so this is the only income we have. can anyone suggest an account/prepaid card that we would be able to use for the rental income to paid into and a couple of DD to be paid from. Many Thanks

£58 Royal bank of Scotland charge

Thanks to RBS I am now £58 short this month for going overdrawn but the good news from the teller in the Arbroath branch is if this had happened this month I would only have been charged £5 talk about adding insult to injury?????? I visted a site today and will try to claim bank these charges I would be grateful if any users have had a successful claim or have been shown the door by RBS For their lack of help or understanding my prize for the worst bank in Scotland goes to the Royal Bank of Scotland Arbroath branch. Still my £58 should help towards their debt problem RBS has 40 million customers worldwide they should charge each one £58 and hey presto there problems will be solved

Help...re: Maternity Leave

I am due to start Maternity Leave next week (baby due in December) I have a £1000 overdraft and this is used every month (wages go in = overdraft gets used again) However with SMP I will not be getting £1000 per month going into my account I want to get rid of my overdraft but I am not in a position to pay it off Any recommendations?
