I went to test drive a new car and decided to buy one. They gave me a good deal on my part ex car and I will end up paying the balance in cash to them.

I am waiting on the car to be delivered but have been given no date from the garage.

I am now having second thoughts about this...where do I stand if I want to cancel. I paid a 100.00 deposit 6 days ago

You will lose your deposit - and could be sued for breach of contract by the garage.....

ok thanks...how soon do you think I should wait before asking for a delivery date of the vehicle.....

If this is a NEW car - I would have got this (in writing ?) at the time of signing on the dotted line - but it depends on the car - normally delivery should be in a matter of weeks - unless the car is being made to order - in which case - the sky is the limit !!

it is a brand new car but not being made to order....I was quite happy about the deal at the time and I guess I will go through with but I just wanted an opinion on where you stand legally if you wanted to cancel.....

I guess if they give me a delivery date...and its not met...maybe I have some comeback >

Usually, an estimated delivery date is supplied on the order form from the dealer. You have to wait untill 21 days after the EDD before you can write to request cancellation for failure to supply.

If you have an order form, these conditions should be set out on it somewhere.

They told me on the sunday that they would ring me on the following tuesday to give me a date , they never rang !

I ended up ringing them two days later.....they have promised me they will get back to me this week with a delivery date.

on the form there were no conditions on the reverse...watch this space !
