Re: LAND OF (very poor quality) LEATHER
21st February 2008 The LOL staff at Poole, Dorset, could not be more helpful. The manager has now tracked down a new 3 piece suite in cream being unloaded at Avonmouth Docks next week and promised delivery in 4 weeks time. This will now be suite number 3 since October 2007 at no charge to us . He has also promiosed to inspect the suite himself before delivery.Problems can rise with all products and if the supplier is doing his very best to correct unfortunate problems that arise there is not more than one can ask. The brown 2 seater that was delivered yesterday was packed at the factory in casing that indicated it contained a cream sofa and this could not be seen before delivery. So its not LOL`s fault but the manufacturer/supplier and LOL are doing their very best to correct an embarassing problem.. So far LOL 10/10 for service.

Re: LAND OF (very poor quality) LEATHER
Glad to hear that you have had good service, we can also support that. We have now had confirmation that the "peeling" is a manufacturing problem and we were offered £70 refund (and keep the suite) or full money back (returning the suite). We opted for the later. I wonder why they didn't offer us a non-faulty replacement? Perhaps they couldn't be confident it wouldn't happen again!? The suite has been collected and we were given our money back (which is great), however a week later we are still waiting for the refund of the original delivery charge (we were told all charges would be refunded including delivery). Our concern is that the delivery driver collecting the suite told us that these suites are patched up and put back on sale - let's hope he was joking, but I suspect not! I would support your point about the staff being helpful but I would say that we have had to push all the way! When we do get to speak to someone they are helpful but we have had to chase. We will not be buying the next suite from LOL, once bitten twice shy.

Re: LAND OF (very poor quality) LEATHER
To recap and opdate the "Land of Leather" Saga. A brown Simone Leather three peice sofa set was purchased on 20/8/2007 and delivered on 12/10/2007 . By Christmas the Brown surface colur was coming off to reveal an orange undercoat. A formal complant form was picked up fron LOL on the 13th of January and returned to store on the 19th January. An inspector from ECO Master came and declared the sofas faulty and a new set in cream was ordered and delivered on the 19th February 2008. All three units were coded from the factory as cream. The three seater and the single rocker was cream while the two seater was yet another Brown. We were offered a full refund, or a replacement. We chose to go for the replacement and another order for a complete three peice set in cream was set up by the manager at no cost to ourselves on the March 3rd 2008 with delivery quoted as 20 weeks. Apart from sitting in a two cream and one brown set in the meantime we look forward to the completely new set ariving in August 2008 at no cost to ourselves other then the bother of it all. I must say the staff continue to be helful and supportive and that the fault is due to a manufacturing fault and a manufacturing codeing error and is due to the company Man Wah - Cheers trying to meet a rapidly expanding global market with possibly insufficient resources from sub-contactors to undertake this expansion producing 253,000 sofa sets in leather last year.Stephen Barr is president of Cheers Sofas USA. Its a problem that Man Wah are going to have to solve if the LOL is to risk taking their CHEERS supply and keep customers like me satisfied.

Re: LAND OF (very poor quality) LEATHER
Well, it might look as though I should change my user name but then I have not yet got my 3 piece suite yet delivered in one piece and OK through my front door, and you know what they say about birds in the hand, so the final jury is still out.!

Re: LAND OF (very poor quality) LEATHER
I have just found this forum and had to register so as to let you all know of my experience. Bought a chestnut 3 setter and chair from LOL 2 years ago and within 6 months it had sunburn - it was peeling so quick we thought it would be coming off onto us everytime we sat on it and didn't dare let anyone with good clothes sit on it. We have no children or pets at home so it wasn't through lots of use as we only go into the room in the evening. To cut a long story short, ie assessors, managers(??) and the like had 'never seen anything like it, faulty batch, Friday suite etc' being told us we opted for another suite. 12 weeks later it arrived. Two weeks after the 1 year deadline, low and behold it peeling again. Another dozen phone calls to the manager, who always seems like he is with clients, at break, day off, on holiday, I managed to speak to him. An assessor was sent out and he was honest in the fact that he told us that this is happening to all the suites in that type of colour and can confirm its not just LOL as my niece has had the same problem and she got her from Harveys but to their credit they have given her a new suite in a different colour within 3 weeks because they knew the brown ones were having lots of problems. GOSH HORROR an honest and reliable service. Block colours don't seem to be affected. Offered a repair, but having had one already will not do this as I know it will happen again in another part of the suite. We have now been waiting 6 weeks for the manager to get hold of his manager to find out what he can do for us. We have asked for our money back. Usage has been suggested but if it wasn't for their faulty suites then I wouldn't have had all this aggravation anyway so why should I pay usage it should be them paying me. I have phoned again this morning, third time this week and the manager is 'with a client'. My husband has now had enough. We are again going to the store this afternoon and if we get no joy then he is going to load the chair onto his pickup truck and take it with leaflets we have made to the store and get everyone that comes near it to look and see what a complete fake LOL are and that yes its crap. Wish the letters of it were LOS because it could stand for Load of **** !

Yes seems about right....I changed my Chestnut/brown for a cream and we have had no trouble since...Why is it the LOL know about all these problems yet still carry on selling stuff they know is going to bounce back, is it because they are buying in these suits so cheap from China it really doesn`t matter how many go wrong??? and in any case thay can always fall back on the old consumer regulations that allow them to charge you for the amount of time you sat with all that rubbish...

Re: LAND OF (very poor quality) LEATHER
hi there, just reading all these "bad things",i'm getting worried.we have just ordered a brown suit from lol,its getting delivered in june/july.we got it for a good price and spent the extra few hundered pounds on the insurance,(as we have 3 kids and a dog and thought it sounded great if anything happens to it).i must say that the person that dealt with us was a very nice man,(the assistant manager) in lol in reading, the only thing is,he said that the suit we liked is 100% leather, but i've looked at it online and it just says leather/split,i know this is better than leather match, but don't think it's as good as 100% proper leather,so he was a bit misleading.we decided to go for the pay in a year option,so haven't handed any money over yet. i hope that my brown suit doesn't start peeling,we were looking at another one, which was black, but think he persuaded us a little that that one had leather match on and wasn't as good,(it was also cheaper),i did prefer the brown one,so he didn't need to try too hard. i'm going to be watching when the delivery men bring it,as one person on here said that there sofa got dropped on the road and got scuffed, and they had loads of problems getting it sorted out.i would have thought that a big company like lol who have great adds on the tv etc, would be much better with their customers both during purchase and after.as i said earlier though, our sales man was very polite,he let us have the suit for the price it was at the first time we saw it,(it had gone up about £1000 the second time),he left us alone to sit and decide which of the 2 we really liked the best, and we found him generally nice, but i suppose only time will tell, hopefully everything will go smoothly and we won't encounter some of the problems i've read on here. i'll have to let you know in a cpl of months.

Re: LAND OF (very poor quality) LEATHER
Honestly, if I were you I would cancel the deal.Unless you have paid in excees of £3000 for a suit you will not get real leather as you think of leather. If you have paid £1000 then the brown suit you have got is split and buffed leather made in China that is smoothed out and repaired as necessary with filler , then sprayed what ever colour to suit, sometimes two or three colours and then polished and cut to fit.The top finish you saw is artificial and it not the top finish of the animal but a split buffed imprinted underskin. If you paid £500 for the suit you would not even get a split skin but leather fibres stuck together with adhesive, rolled out and coloured. If however you do go through with the deal then watch very carefully for any signs of the colour either rubbing off to reveal a diffferent undercoat or an even cheaper finish that is sprayed on like a vinyl coat which splits and peels off. Also look for signs that the cushion edges are chaffing and splitting as the cushions rub together as the sides and back are not leather but a made up material. To cover a suit in real Scottish leather costs in excess of £6000.

Re: LAND OF (very poor quality) LEATHER
Mine was the Chestnut brown Simone at £1750 then it went down to £950 then back up to £1750 .when it fell to £950 in the 12 hour sale we both felt pig sick....Thanks a bundle LOL you really do make us feel good about your leather suites....When the colour rubbed off there was orange underneath. They said it was a bad batch but they all seem to have this fault and not just LOL but other companies as well.I guess they are all from the same leather manufacturer in China.. as to yours being a good suite, why should you be the lucky one when mine was so bad ??? .

Re: LAND OF (very poor quality) LEATHER
HI Just to let you know that i ordered my sofa middle of Jan and paid in full. They promised me 12-14 week delivery i phoned in April and they told me my sofa would be delivered in the next 2 weeks. When they didnt phone to confirm delivery, i contact them to be told that the sofa still wasnt in stock and i was more looking like May delivery. I have just got back from holiday and i again contact LOL, to be told i was more looking like June delivery. I am so fed up that the money i paid in Jan that i still havent got my goods. The service from the sales team is really poor i have left many messages and no one ever gets back to me. I have asked for the area Sales Manager to call me and still he has not. but i was also told that the area sales manager did not get involed in the customers (rubbish) Today i have asked for a refund, to be told that i need to apply in writing and then it will take about 7 day as the area sales manager needs to approve the refund on my card. I told them that i want the refund now and that i will be coming into the store tomorrow for a full refund and i expect it to be done there and then. They have agreed. Please beware. Thank you
