    lost life insurance policy document

    Hi,

I took out a joint life insurance policy for myself and my husband and had been paying the premiums till his death recently. I have put in the claim to the life insurance company and they are requesting I return the original policy document which I cannot ever remember receiving and did not think about until now. Obviously I cannot find it! Without this they say I need to take out a lost life policy indemnity and that this could cost a few thousand pounds due to the sum insured. We did not have this attached to a house or anything else and was just a life insurance policy not endowment or other. I am not sure what this is and why I need to pay for a policy to indemnify the insurance company when I have all the other details and can prove that I am the beneficiary of the policy which I need to do anyway. Surely an afadavit should be sufficient.! He did not leave a will and iIhave put in the probate forms which I also need in order to submit this indemnity policy request.

Please can you advise on this subject. Any information/suggestions/advice would be gratefully received.

    Thanks

Hi -- Contact this firm for a quote to provide a, "lost life policy" indemnity cover. I cannot see it costing as much as you've been quoted, I would expect it to be around £200 ...to £250 to arrange to buy a lost indemnity policy, certainly not thousands. !

    Hi,

thanks, I will try them and let you know how i get on.

I had been quoted £1,500 plus insurance premium tax of £75 so would be grateful if i can get this down to a few hundred instead.

Who quoted you that much, was it by any chance a company associated with the life policy that you have lost. ?

I got a defective title indemnity policy which covers the buyers of a house in the event I did not have the legal right to sell to them, although slightly different it only cost £250.

    Hi,

Tried them and although they are a lot cheaper (under £800) there is an issue over the wording of the policy and as the life insurance company want a word removed and they are unable to remove the word (fraudulent) i am back to square one.

The other company is one that has been used by them before and are aware of the issues with wording though are not directly affiliated. I am looking to see if any other company can help or i am stuck paying out almost two thousand pounds.
