    Re: Maestro transaction

You don't say if you already have an overdraft, but you could ask the bank whilst you are paying in additional funds for a temporary overdraft (or extension) to cover the payment and any other scheduled direct debits etc, until you can pay in more money (salary) shortly, as you've realised that a payment you've made hasn't been taken from your account yet, and you'd assumed it already was.

This might help avoid any charges.

    Re: Maestro transaction

Thanks so much to both of you. I can get some money paid into my account. It won't cover the whole amount but at least I am paying some of it.

    Thanks Again

Does my bank have a right to reject this pending transaction ?

No the payment is guaranteed to the merchant, even if it's a card on a basic bank account with no overdraft facility.

This is good opportunity to dig out the account terms and conditions and familiarise yourself with what happens next. I'm talking charges here.

As Sparky76 suggests try to pay some money in ASAP. Most accounts now have Faster Payment in and most accounts have Faster Payment out at least for small sums.

    Re: Maestro transaction

Sorry I didn't answer your question regarding the transaction. I think that they have guaranteed the payment to the vendor, so they would pay it, and you would face whatever charges for making the payment.

    Re: Maestro transaction

My advice would be if you can, to find the cash and pay it into your account asap, so that your bank does not attempt to make this payment, reject it and then charge you somewhere between £20 and £70 for the privilege. Alternatively they may pay the transaction and take you into an overdraft (or extend it) and charge you a lot of money for this.

Contact your bank and see when it is going to be processed (if it hasn't already been rejected) and do your best to fund it.

This may be by asking for an overdraft or extension to cover it (which as authorised wouldn't cost as much).

    Good luck.

    Maestro transaction

    Hi There

I have recently used my maestro card for a transaction on-line which was apprioved at the time adn the goods will be on their way. However, I got into a bit of a mess and I have now realised there is not enough money in my account for the transaction to be paid - it has not yet come out of my bank. Does my bank have a right to reject this pending transaction ? What would the merchant do if I have already had the goods. Does my bank have a duty to honour transactions that have been approved even if there is not enough money in my account ?

Your help would be greatly appreciated.
