My Dad has a problem in printing on his PC - He can't print from Word, Wordpad or Notepad on his Canon printer - he can print graphics - and his old Epson prints OK on everything - any ideas ?

He has reinstalled the Canon drivers - no difference - hence assume that it must be a setting on his PC ?

I would guess that the printer is not recognising the document formats, but this should produce an error. There may be a conflict between different software. I have had similar problems where I have had different printers and have just added the new printers software, without removing the old. I think the PC just gets confused.

If your Dad still has the original installation disc for the printer, I would remove all printer software using uninstall options in program list, restart the PC and then run the installation disc again.

If this does not solve the problem, PASS.

The disc that came with the printer will be generic drivers. Uninstall all printer drivers on the PC, then go to the website and download the specific driver, comparable with the Operating system.

If that fails go to the pub and drink lots!

It turned out to be a duff replacement black ink cartridge - doh !!
