    Red debt collection letter

Hi, I received a letter today for red debt collection services, its in a name I haven't been for over 6 years and I have never had any dealings with 3 so not sure who the elegded debt is for, rung them they asked for my name which I gave(so no lies there) but this is different to what is on the letter,I asked what it was this for and they asked why i'd opened the letter,I just said cause it came throught my door. I do know that if there is a debt that is over six years the it is classed as statute barred and they can not claim a penny from you. So if you think you owe the money first check if it is over 6 years old first before contacting them.

I would expect that they will continue to write to your address. You could just send the letters back marked ' addressee not known or resident'. After 6 years they cannot enforce the debt but this does not stop these companies writing.

You should check your latest credit reports, just to make sure. Experian offer a free trial for 30 days, but you have to wait 7 days for the pin no. to be sent to you.

Reading between the lines, are you saying that the letter was in your maiden or previously known name. If so your credit record may well be noted.
