I would take meter read every day for 7 days at a similar time and call your supplier and give them this.
They can tell if your meter is running fast and do a usage check list with you.
Also the meters you are talking about to should you how much you are using, some of those need to be configured. You may want to ask your supplier about that ...

Southern Elec/hydro/atlantic/swalec does not charge to change meters!
After the intal 28days it takes to take over the supply they will book an appointment with you to change your meter to credit meters.

You will not be charged for the meter.
Your usage will be worked out in your favour but if you disagree say something to them.
You will not have to pay it back at once although you will have 12 dd payments on your account(assuming you are on a monthly dd) and they should cover it.

The differnce is always worked out in the customers favour and as someone else has said it is pro rata.
Also you dont have to have fyour account on 6monthly billing you can opt out of it!
If you have 3montly you get 2 estimates per year and 2 actual or rota reads.
With 6 monthly you are getting 2 actual reads.

Try calling SE and ask them if you COS (change of supply) read is correct and confirm the MSN with them for your gas.
Also give them all the digits on your meter so they can see if it is 4 or 5 dial meter, all the number, points and numbers in black or red.
